Composed as part of Stephen Feld’s Sound class at the University of Chicago in 2023, this is a collage of recordings that Anna-Marie made during preliminary fieldwork in Iași, Romania – bits of interviews, sounds recorded on the street, and all background droney elements are stretched out sounds from interviewees. Anna-Marie’s guiding thought was: what can sociophoneticians do with sounds besides measure everyone’s vowels.
